I really wasn’t sure whether I wanted to write this or not but 2020 has indeed been a great year. I got to focus more on personal development while coaching and mentoring others in my little capacity. I also got to contribute my writing skills to businesses, professionals and students while pursuing some form of entrepreneurship.

I also broke the record I had in 2019 for the number of books I read. Last year, I read a total of 18 books. You can check them out here. In 2020, I read a total of 39 books with 5 of them being a repeat read because the books were truly amazing and I felt the lessons in them needed to sink in deeply.

As much as I have a lot of things to talk about in 2020 and as much as I would have loved to share the wins and losses, I choose to focus on the lessons I learnt. One of the key takeaways for me which is also a part of the lessons I will be sharing is that you always need to walk into the past to get perspective for the future. This is really helped a lot.

So, these are the 20 lessons that 2020 taught me.

  1. When team members take responsibility for their own part of the work, the team wins. Teams thrive when team members do their homework.
  2. Work on your mind. This is one of your greatest assets and, learn to think really big.
  3. Speak up: speak up for yourself and speak up for others. You might be the only voice everyone needs.
  4. There are times when being free has a higher dignity than being cheap.
  5. Learn to say, “No!” It’s not everything you say yes to. Some No’s are blessings in disguise.
  6. Not every good thing is good for you.
  7. Take risks because life is full of risks.
  8. Sometimes, God’s final decisions will crush and break you but in the end, it is usually the best.
  9. There are times when you really need to walk into the past to get perspective for the future.
  10. Place value on yourself, you are worth more.
  11. You’re truly free when you’re no longer desperate (and this applies to all areas of life).
  12. The waters will never part if you do not step in. Do it afraid!
  13. Never look down on anyone. Your greatest help might come from the one you least expected.
  14. There’s time for everything and when the times, you will know.
  15. Investment in people is one of the best investments you would ever make. It has a ripple effect on your joy.
  16. There’s power in silence. It’s possible to fight battles with no voice.
  17. There’s something such as ‘divide and conquer’ but unity will always stand.
  18. More than any other time, you need thinking time. Great entrepreneurs always need to find time to think.
  19. The gift you despise might end up becoming your main means of survival.
  20. Twenty and most important which I cannot overemphasize: Never trade your relationship and fellowship with God for anything. It is all you would ever have.

And yes, these are the 20 lessons I have from 2020 and these are lessons that I’ve had to learn and I will still keep learning. Thanks for following through to the end of the 20 lessons and if you didn’t check all, check again, you just might find one that will stick with you.

I would love to share in your lessons too, I look forward to having you share some of your 2020 lessons in the comment section and don’t forget to clap and share these lessons with others.

If you found any that resonated with you, hit the comment section and let me know what number caught your attention.
